Avatar Meher Baba Heartland Center
Avatar Meher Baba Heartland Center is a universal spiritual retreat founded in 2002 to honor the personal sacrifice Meher Baba endured in His 1952 automobile accident near Prague, Oklahoma, when He shed His blood on American soil. Meher Baba said of the accident, "You must understand that this was God's will, and it will result in benefit to the whole world."
The Heartland Center is dedicated to memorializing and preserving access to the site of Meher Baba’s accident and the hospital where He and His beloved Mehera and other Mandali members recuperated. The Center maintains retreat facilities for those coming to Prague to visit these sacred sites and is open to all who love and follow Meher Baba and to all who know of Him and want to know more.
The Heartland Center is comprised of two adjacent residential properties. They include the Burleson House, former home of Dr. Ned Burleson who treated Meher Baba, Mehera, and the other Mandali members who were injured during the accident; and the Morrison House, former home of Walter Morrison. Mr. Morrison was Dr. Burleson’s friend and a faithful supporter of the clinic founded by the doctor. The clinic, located directly behind the Burleson House, was enlarged and now serves local communities as the Prague Regional Memorial Hospital.
The Heartland Center property is currently managed by full-time caretaker Jane Montgomery.
